Central Fife Open Studios – 2018

Mary Farrell and Jane Francis will be in Maker on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September, 10am -6pm, as they are taking part in this great open doors event across central Fife. The concept behind CFOS is that artists and makers across the region invite the public into their studios. Some artists view the event as an opportunity to get new finished work out into the public arena and get in touch with new and old customers, while others see it as an opportunity to get feedback on their current work. Whatever you find going on in the studios, ts a wonderful opportunity to go for a jaunt around the area and pop in to see artists and makers in situ.

Jane Francis

This year Jane has been developing some of the concepts she has been thinking about since 2016, and has been making artist’s books, oil painting and perfume! She welcomes anyone who would like to come and chat about her work during this development phase. She will have some prints and cards for sale and maybe a painting or two!

Mary will be showing some of her latest jewellery designs, inspired by her fascination with natural forms. She will also have examples of some of her best loved collections for sale during the weekend.

Intriguing Objects

I came into Maker this morning to find these interesting objects set up in lovely tableau! Jo Barrett is now running her two day class, Botanical Plaster Casting – 30th June/1st July. The class will use natural and found objects to construct images to be cast in plaster, creating unique pieces. Intriguing stuff……..

Turning paintings into prints

Jane Francis – “I’ve recently taken the exciting step of having some of my artwork professionally copied and made into prints and greeting cards, hopefully making my work more accessible to a larger audience.”

Has anybody else had experience with turning their artwork into prints and/or cards? Did you manage to reach out to a wider audience; what were your experiences with quality of prints, and how did having this done effect your practice as an artist?

You’ll find Jane’s prints and cards at Maker, 2a High Street Inverkeithing, and My Cherry Pie at 301 High Street Kirkcaldy.

Maker – spring/summer 2018

Creative Activities at Maker

2a, High Street, Inverkeithing

There has been much activity recently at Maker, Inverkeithing’s dedicated space for socially engaged and creative activities.

Local artist Rosie Gibson has continued teaching her brilliant ‘Drawing for Fun’ course, based on exercises which challenge the right side of the brain to observe and describe what it sees. She has run the course with two groups, and looks set to continue well into 2018, with the potential for more groups to begin the course. Her current students have thoroughly enjoyed practicing the processes and techniques Rosie introduces – and in return have surprised themselves by creating really beautiful drawings.

Artist, illustrator and writer Jeanne Dron has developed our Tuesday drop-in drawing sessions into a wonderful opportunity for people to gather, talk, learn skills and techniques, and develop their own creativity. Participants have found the sessions to be extremely valuable for both skills-learning and as a sociable activity. Jeanne will also be running a workshop on June 17th ‘An Introduction to Needlefelting’ which will include learning techniques such as wet felting and making felt pictures. For more details about this class see our website www.inverkeithngarts.org or contact us at info@inverkeithingarts.org.

Maker has also been the scene of meditation workshops with Jan McLaughlan (Juniper-J Therapies). These have been popular, proving that Maker is also an excellent and inspiring space for activities which develop personal growth and resilience-building – even without even picking up a pencil! Jan will be starting some new weekly meditations workshops later in the summer so do get in touch if this is of interest to you.

To find out more about any of the above activities email us at info@inverkeithingarts.org or call 01383 271839. There will be more workshops and classes advertised in the near future on our website  www.inverkeithingarts.org so don’t forget to check it out, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
