Children’s Storytelling – Stories, Sangs and Rhymes

CHATTERBOX STORIES will be at the INVERKEITHING FESTIVE MAKERS MARKET on Saturday 12th December 1PM-4PM.  Children of all ages are invited to drop in, absolutely FREE (thanks to Fife Council), and experience the magic of the season with ‘Winter Tales’ by joining in and listening to stories, sangs and rhymes. You’ll find them in the Cafe of Inverkeithing Civic Centre, where there will also be children’s crafting activities related to the stories.

We’ll be hearing about Santa and Rudolf, Jack Frost and The Happy Prince, The Three Bears and Auld Ted, and many many more. It’s sure to be a fun and magical afternoon!

Storytelling is a wonderful way for a community to come together, and we invite all of the children of Inverkeithing and surrounding towns, as well as all our young visitors to the Makers Market from far and wide, to come along, listen, and join in with Kate and Rowan.

We are collaborating with Spittalfield Residents and Tenants Association to make sure the word gets out about it, and The Scottish Book Trust are generously giving us lots of lovely children’s books to give away to wee visitors! Parents and carers can also find out about children joining the library and all of the events and activities which go on in public libraries across Fife and Scotland.

sustain:ability – The ART:JAM Artists and Crafters

All eighteen artists and crafters who are taking part in the ART:JAM on Saturday 12th September at Inverkeithing Civic Centre have sustain:ability in their creative practice in at least one of the ways described below:

environmental sustain:ability:

Artists and crafters who specialise in the field of re-purposing and re- cycling materials, up-cycling items and obtaining materials from sustainable sources.

economic sustain:ability

Making, selling and buying creative, hand-made and local produce of any kind is a big part of maintaining a strong, sustainable and meaningful local economy.

 community sustain:ability

Communities are sustained when people get together to talk, laugh, plan and organise, explore difficulties, grow, cook and eat food together and make beautiful and useful things together. Community crafting groups and community art projects are an integral part of this aspect of sustainability.

 personal sustain:ability

Taking part in creative activities, creating art, enjoying and experiencing the creative arts, are all deeply fulfilling, increase wellbeing, and can be vital to our sense of identity. We communicate with each other and work out our problems through the practice of self expression through art, growing in confidence as individuals and as communities, either in a localised or broader sense.

sustain:ability

Throughout the next year, Inverkeithing Arts Initiative will be exploring the concept, through events and projects which focus on many different interpretations of the word sustain and how we attain sustainability or find sustenance in our lives, as individuals and as a community, particularly through the application and practice of, involvement and interaction with the Creative Arts.

We’ll be hosting and arranging art & craft workshops, community-based projects, interactions between the public and practicing makers, and opportunities for local makers to exhibit and sell their work.

sustain:ability

The ART:JAM Art & Craft Market on Saturday 12th September 2015 at the Inverkeithing Civic Centre will mark the beginning of a year-long series of events and projects created and led by Inverkeithing Arts Initiative. These will be held set in and around Inverkeithing, under the title: sustain:ability

The ‘year of sustain:ability’ events and projects will focus on many different interpretations of the word sustain and how we attain sustainability or find sustenance in our lives, as individuals and as a community, particularly through the application and practice of, involvement and interaction with the Creative Arts

Sustain – verb: to support, hold, bear up from below, bear the weight of, undergo or experience, endure without giving way, keep going as an action or process, supply with food, drink and other necessities of life, to provide for…

We’ll be asking lots of questions:  How does creative practice sustain people economically, environmentally, socially, in terms of health and wellbeing, and in building different types of community? How do creative activities contribute to the wellbeing and health of those who participate, and to the community in general? We’ll examine how we can all contribute to a sustainable economy by buying local produce and handmade items. We also want to ask: who are the people in our lives who sustain us, and how how can we each contribute to the sustain:ability of other people in our communities?

We’ll be hosting and arranging art & craft workshops, community-based projects, interactions between the public and practicing makers, and opportunities for local makers to exhibit and sell their work.
